Slot canyons aren’t the only things of interest in Page. Yesterday afternoon I drove a short distance outside of town to the famous Horseshoe Bend. This is where the Colorado river literally bends around a massive outcrop of rock to form a very tight horseshoe shape. The trail to the cliff edge is maybe just under a mile, mostly downhill (naturally). Once there there is nothing between you and drop of roughly 1000′ except your own common sense, no fences, no ropes, nothing. Photos which show the river completely flowing in the horseshoe shape have been taken, but not by me. I got one part and the other but the middle section, pretty much under where I was standing will remain unphotographed by me.
As you walk down to the cliff edge you can see the outcrop that the river bends around(middle section of gray rock in this photos)
This is one section of the river.
This is the other section, on the left side you can see a bit of the river after it has gone around the bend.
This morning (April 24) I took a drive along Lake Powell. Quite a nice lake, but it looked like the water was very low.
