The Black Bull Inn dominates one end of the main street in Coniston. Over the years we’ve eaten there many times and always enjoyed it. The pubs in the UK do allow dogs and during this trip we’ve seen Labs, a greyhound, terriers and a mastiff all relaxing with their owners as they (the owners) tip back a pint or have a meal.
The weather continued to be very overcast with heavy mist and frequent rain, unfortunately. Once in a while in the afternoon we’d see a spot of sun then it was gone again. We went looking for a couple of “new to us” stone circles but didn’t find them so we went to a favorite, Castlerigg Stone Circle, outside Keswick. It is estimated to date from around 3300 BC and its original purpose has been lost.
The views looking in various directions are wonderful, even when the sun isn’t shining.
While we could have wished for better weather it was a good trip.
