I left Haines on Sunday, June 15 with the fridge working and scattered clouds. All seemed like a good omen.
North of Haines Junction I stopped by a lovely lake and looked back at the mountains I’d passed.
North of Haines Junction I stopped by a lovely lake and looked back at the mountains I’d passed. The further north I went the worse it became, a stretch of gravel road that was nasty. It was drizzling so it wasn’t dusty but boy oh boy did the truck and trailer get dirty!!
Got to Fairbanks Monday afternoon, with the fridge not working, again. My first stop was at an rv repair place, it is scheduled for repair on 6-24 so I’m learning my way around Fairbanks! It’s rained most of the week, making it less than fun but I found a large thrift shop, rather like Goodwill and bought some paperbacks to read. Sun came out today so I visited the Large Animal Research Station where they have some Musk Ox.
Also found one of the paddle wheelers that does trips on the Chena River. Now if they would just answer the phone so I can find out about their schedule…..
I changed campground this morning, moved from Chena Lakes to Chena River Rec. area which is very close to downtown. Dry camping and a bit more costly but what I’m saving in gas makes up for it. Gas in town is running $3.87/gal. to about $4.19, outside town it is well up over $4.50/gallon in AK.
