My first full day in Danali was bright and sunny so I tackled cleaning the gas orifice on the fridge. Got that cleaned (easy job) and the fridge is now working! That will make the trip a lot less complicated and even if it clogs again I now know how to fix it. At some point the line will have to be cleaned but I’l make do in the meantime. So much better than needing a cooler!
Late Sat. afternoon I drove out on the park road to Savage River. Saw some caribou relaxing on a sand bar. The river is what is called a braided river, very shallow with many routes along the riverbed.
I have a feeling the flies or other bugs were bothering the animals, their skin was twitching a lot and they would sometimes burst into movement as if fed up with the bugs.
The day remained clear and sunny and I went out again at night to see what I could see. Saw a grizzly and a porcupine but both got into the woods before I could get my camera on them.
The lack of clouds made for less than spectacular sunset but did allow a clear view of the mountain.
